European Standard 50mm Couplers
UpBeat chooses European standard 50mm couplers because there is more safety in the gradual wear and tear. As illustrated on the image there is a green, yellow, and red area. Green being OK. Yellow or Red being warning of trailer not coupled properly which simply means recouple. Or the coupler needs simple readjustment.
Mechanical Brakes
UpBeat chooses mechanical brakes as they require the least amount of maintenance. They also do not need any additional systems from the towing vehicle like electrical brakes do, so any vehicle with a 50mm tow hitch is able to tow it. The drum brake system of the axle are also one directional braking which means the brakes automatically release when reversing. At the same time, the trailer will not roll backwards when the hand brake of the overrun hitch is applied.
Torsion Bar Suspension
UpBeat chooses torsion bar suspension because of low maintenance needs, ride smoothness, and higher ground clearance. Torsion bar axles have a closed system and no metal to metal contact points. As shown in the image, a square rod is held inside a square tube by rubber which acts as the suspension function of the axle. Typically, all the maintenance required is changing of bearings and brake pads.
